Highlands Nook Park on the farm "Borreray" is one of the last privately owned properties in the southern Drakensberg. Situated high on a mountain ridge between the conservancy area of Vergellegen and Loteni, the farm has commanding views of the mountains and river valleys on all sides.

Three simple but comfortable cottages are provided for weekenders and those who want to enjoy the pleasures of country life. The Hadedah Nest is perfect for campers and hikers, being a one roomed rondavel with 4 beds, gas kitchenette and log fireplace. The Croft cottage is more suited to families and groups wanting more privacy and comfort. The cottage is double story with one bedroom, bathroom, lounge (with fireplace) and kitchen on the ground floor and an upstairs loft with an extra 6 beds. The Stone Age cottage has been more recently built and is a double story stone and timber built house with a bedroom with bathroom downstairs plus an upstairs bedroom and dorm room with 5 single beds.

The park is close to the Loteni nature reserve and approx 30km from Himeville along a scenic district road.

Directions :

Highlands Nook can be reached from either the Nottingham Road side (for traffic from upcountry) or more usually via Underberg and Himeville. The Loteni-Himeville road from Nottingham Road is tarred for the first 20km but thereafter is poorly maintained gravel for an extra 50km. Do not take this road if there have been heavy rains. The route from Himeville is only 27km of dirt and in better condition. Either way, take the D6 turnoff at the top of the mountain ridge between the Loteni and Umkomaas rivers and follow signs for a further 5km to the Highland Nook campsite and cottages.

Please note that the cottages have gas facilities and that there is no store nearby. Bring all your consumables or buy at Himeville on the way up
